Learning a skilled trade such as plumbing, HVAC or electrical takes time. But how much? Traditional vocational training programs and apprenticeship programs could take as long as 4-5 years to complete, nearly as long as earning a college degree. NexTech Academy, on the other hand, can offer this same program in two years or less. NexTech Academy offers an accelerated education in the trades not by cutting corners but by leveraging experts in the given fields to teach the skills that students entering the trades need today. In fact, in many ways, the NexTech Academy curriculum is even more comprehensive than offline models. So how do we accelerate the pass? By removing the obstructions to learning.

The difference is self-paced learning. With NexTech Academy, students can learn at their pace, at any time in the day that works for them. This method accelerates the learning process and shortens the time needed to complete the entire program.

As a business owner, you want and need superbly trained technicians. However, it’s likely you need those technicians right away. NexTech Academy accomplishes both well-trained technicians and rapidly trained technicians.

While we don’t set a specific schedule, we do offer tips on pacing so a student can complete the program in 24 months. Read on to see how the NexTech Academy is often completed.

Level 1: Fundamental Concepts

Many students come to NexTech Academy with no previous experience and perhaps, no understanding of basic home system repairs. Therefore the intention of Level 1 training is to get students comfortable and familiar with tools, safety procedures, and various materials they will be working with.

Students will learn the importance and application of residential electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems. They will also get to know the history, theory, materials and tools. A training leader and senior technicians will collaborate to provide a safe, controlled environment where the student can develop positive daily habits and disciplines.

Level 2: Basic Skills

With the basics established and understood, Level 2 moves students toward more advanced ideas and assignments. Tasks and processes will be introduced in preparation for higher-level maintenance and service calls. Students will adopt best practices and be introduced to the Nexstar Service System. Assisted by senior technicians, students will also make their first interactions with homeowners as they gain knowledge to perform beginner maintenance tasks. However, this is not a required expectation and can vary by student. The objective is for a student to achieve the status of an educated helper.

Level 3: Intermediate Skills

Level 3 is when students will achieve the ability to handle service calls. As such, more complex applications are introduced regarding repairs and replacements. Building on the Nexstar Service System, students will take an active role in building and presenting options to suit homeowner’s needs. This also brings more independent work as students practice skills and implement the processes they have learned thus far. In doing so, students will continue to expand their knowledge base and gain a deeper understanding of real-world issues and situations.

Level 4: Advanced Skills and Customer Interactions

The fourth and final level is when the student achieves the knowledge, confidence, and experience needed to troubleshoot and repair advanced systems. Going beyond intermediate tasks, they will focus on unique customer service interactions and complex systems. As the journey continues, students make a positive impact on the community as they grow in their careers.
